Van Hauwaert is a historical Belgian brand of bicycles, motorcycles and folding bikes. They were produced by the well-known Belgian cyclist Cyrille Van Hauwaert, initially in Brussels, later in Groot-Bijgaarden.
He was a professional cyclist from 1907 to 1915. He was nicknamed the Lion of Flanders. Van Hauwaert was the first Belgian who won the classic race Bordeaux-Paris (1907), Milan-San Remo (1908) and Paris-Roubaix (1908) and in 1909 he was also the first Belgian who won a stage in the tour de France.
The sign was produced by the firm M.B.B.M. (Manufacture Belge de Boîtes Métalliques), then located in the Heyvaertstraat in Brussels.
