This marvellous book is difficult to pick up, impossible to put down. In nearly 400 extra-large format pages football's past (including the fairly recent past) is captured in a superbly selected, beautifully reproduced set of photographs. Action pictures and photographs of the stars are in the minority, with behind-the-scenes and supporters conveying the changing face of the game. There are big occasions like the first Wembley F.A. Cup Final in 1923 (West Ham fans racing to the stadium), but the incredible double-page spread of hundreds of pitches on Hackney Marshes sums up the grass roots.
30 x 26 cms, hardback, 384 pages.
