Description |
Book by Artur Pasko - historian, assistant professor at the Institute of History of the University of Bialystok. It attempts to take a different look at the Peace Race - the largest amateur cycling race after World War II in Eastern Europe, organized since 1948, initially on the route Warsaw - Praga and Praga - Warsaw, and later Warsaw - Berlin - Praga, by the newspapers of the communist parties : "Trybuna Ludu", "Rudé právo" and "Neues Deutschland" as well as the cycling associations of Poland, Czechoslovakia and East Germany.
The author presents the Peace Race through archival documents created by representatives of the party authorities in the years 1948-1989, which creates an image of it as an event of political importance, carefully planned and controlled by the state apparatus. Also inside the book are some archival photos from the Peace Race.
