A book that compiles photographs of items related to Japanese football from over 100 years of history, primarily from the collection of the Japan Football Museum.
From its opening in December 2003 until its closure in February 2023, the Japan Football Museum has been a favorite among many football fans in Japan and abroad as a place that connects the past, present, and future of Japanese football.
SHUKYU Magazine began with an introduction to the JFA magazine "Shukukyu" in its inaugural issue, "ROOTS ISSUE," published in May 2015, and from the second issue onward, it has featured the collections of the Japan Football Museum in a series co-authored with photographer Gottingham entitled "JAPAN FOOTBALL ARCHIVE."
This issue consists of a combination of previously published photos and new photos taken specifically for this special issue. Brief explanations are also included. I hope you enjoy learning the stories behind each item.
The success of Japanese football since the 1990s has attracted worldwide attention. However, to get to where we are today requires a long history, built by many predecessors. Knowledge of this history can provide clues for reflections on the future as well as the present.
The book was originally created as a medium to preserve memories as records for future generations. This edition has been created in the hope that it can make at least a small contribution in this regard. The items presented in this book represent only a small part of our extensive collection, and therefore it is not possible to tell the entire story of Japanese football in one volume. However, we hope that it can convey at least some of the charm of this history to everyone who picks up this book.
30 x 21 cm, softback, 168 pages.
